DOST GIA Shrimp Project Researchers, Dr. Mudjie and Bdek, together with UST Counterparts, Dr. Mary Beth Maningas and Jennifer Alambra, joined their JSPS Collaborator, Dr. Hidehiro Kondo and PhD student Ms. Aiko Shitara, at the Palm Plaza Hotel to visit several shrimp farms in Iloilo last February 21, 2012. UPV counterparts, Dr. Jane Geduspan and Ms. Mayflor Sibongga, joined the team to see the status of shrimp farms in the Visayan Region after a warm welcome at the Iloilo airport.
Notable farms visited were the UP-Visayas Fish and Shrimp farm located in Iloilo, SEAFDEC Brackishwater Station in Dumangas, Iloilo and the SEAFDEC Main Office in Tigbauan, Iloilo. Several courtesy calls created good relations in the different institutions visited. Their return to Manila in February 22, 2012 marked their visit in GFL where they met the Genetic Fingerprinting Labsters. With this short meeting, a research relationship has been made and future collaborations with NFRDI are projected. Overall, this experience has been rewarding to both NFRDI (Philippines) and TUMSAT (Japan) in terms of Marine Biotechnology research relations.
