Our very own Doc Mudjie recently received the highly acclaimed Gawad Saka Award for having performed an excellent service and role in the field of Agricultural research. He was particularly cited for showcasing molecular work on DNA barcoding, next generation sequencing and population connectivity. A total of 25 winners won this year's Gawad Saka Awards and they received an amount of 6.5 million peso prizes which includes project grant, presidential citation and trophy. Dr. Santos will receive a total of 1 million pesos (900, 000 pesos project grant and 100, 000 cash prize) sponsored by Department of Agriculture Bureau of Agricultural research (DA-BAR). The Department of Agriculture (DA) Philippines holds an annual awarding ceremony entitled “Gawad Saka” to Filipino people who made a significant contribution in their field of expertise. Also, this awarding body pays tribute to farmers, fishermen, and related groups who excelled in enhancing the development of agriculture and fishery sector in the Philippines.
