The project was spearheaded by the two (2) main collaborating scientists Dr. Jeffrey T. Williams and Dr. Kent E. Carpenter of SI-NMNH which was assisted by the three (3) research assistants including Michael John R. Mendiola (GFL-NFRDI). Apollo Marco Lizano (UP-MSI) and Emeliano Gultia (BFAR region 7).
The sample collection was done in various markets in Cebu which includes the following sampling sites: Mandaue Market, Lapu-Lapu Market, Bogo Market, Daan Bantayan Public Market, Medellin Market, Kawit Market, Talisay Market, Menglanilla Market, Carbon Market and Pasil Market. All samples were purchased and properly labelled with the market and the location of fishing activity. After which, the samples were brought to the laboratory house and the fish processing were carried out. All samples were properly identified by Dr. Carpenter and photographed by Dr. Williams. Further, fish tissue samples were taken for DNA analyses and for SI-NMNH and NFRDI tissue banks. The fish sample processing was completed through specimen preservation using formaldehyde. The team also travelled to Bohol and the sample collection was done in all coastal markets around Bohol Province namely: Cogon Market, Dao Market, Causeway Market, Loay Market, Jagna Market, Ubay Market, Guindulman Market, Mabini Market, Candihay Market, Mangga Market and Calape Market. The samples were processed the same way as in previous methodology. Furthermore, the the samples were properly wrapped and sealed for shipping purposes.
